Temperatures Daytime high 28 degrees Celsius, 30th; Night lowest 5C (28th); Ground lowest 3C. Sunshine Only eight days with six or more hours of sunshine. Wind No gales generally light and on many occasions very light. Another totally unusual month, probably largely due to El Nino hanging round for longer than nor- mal. The rain, which was spread over the whole month, although slightly above the average, at no time was enough to cause flooding, as occurred in so many other localities, but was sufficient to keep everything growing. It was an embarrassment to some farmers, who didn t know what to do with the grass! Temperatures, although over 20 degrees Celsius, were pleasant, and nights allowed comfortable sleep- ing. The most disappointing aspect of the month was the lack of sunshine. Growth, in all sectors, was amazing, but the lack of sunshine meant that many crops, tomatoes in particular, were very slow in ripening. I take my daily readings at about 7.30am and in the summer you expect to wake up to a clear spark- ling day, but last month on 23 days I recorded cloud cover on 6 or over, 8 being totally overcast, and the majority of days continued dull and grey all day. Clean up: Washing windows for residents of Woodlark Flats are Jack and Jan Narvel, Rebekah McGimpsey, Jesse Lee and Maryanne Turner of Youth with a Mission. YWAM's practical ministry in Feilding By BOBBIE NICHOLLS Members of Youth with a Mission (YWAM) in New Zealand for two months have had to supplement their summer wardrobes from opportunity shops to cope with the unexpected cooler weather. In Feilding for two weeks, leader of the five member team, Minnesotta- based Jesse Lee said they spent the first day at Parachute music festival near Hamilton getting very wet. They thoroughly enjoyed camping and the fun of the festival, but the rain had made it necessary to buy more clothes. We were on the gates and had a YWAM stall to tell people about the organisation. It was fun, Jan Narvel said. She and her husband, Jack, (older members of the team, from Battle- ground, Washington, in the United States) are having a blast . While in Feilding, the team are being billeted with members of Lifepoint church and attended the church camp in the Pohangina Valley last weekend (February 4 and 5). The church had surveyed residents at the nearby Woodlark Flats and the team spent a day helping out there. Many of the residents have home help, but they don t wash windows, Jesse said. So that s something we are able to do for them . They had also been to Shiloh retreat centre, in Cheltenham, where they gave their labour and enjoyed the com- pany of Marj and Ron Newman. The team, who also include Can- adian Rebekah McGimpsey and Maryanne Tucker, from Christchurch, head back to Auckland this weekend after two weeks of practical ministry in and around Feilding.
