It's back Assistance: Boutique shops provide specialist knowledge on their product and can reassure on quality. At your service: Businesses throughout the town are helping customers with their Christmas shopping. Any time: Late night shopping and extra hours allows time for all family members to help with the shopping and pick out their favourite items. Feilding retailers are to be congratulated for extending their shopping hours in the lead-up to Christmas. Many businesses will open until 7pm on Wednesdays and on Saturdays and Sundays. The decision for a Wednesday late night works well for people who live in Feilding but work elsewhere. By shopping on a Wednesday night, the run-up to the frantic weekend can be avoided and families will have time to browse and make choices for Christmas shopping. Teenagers can check out and make hints at what is available for potential presents, or get that present Mum really did want. They will be ably assisted by knowledgeable staff who probably either know your mum or have a clearer idea of what may be the best choice. ''As a teenager I fondly recall memories of late night shopping in Feilding,'' said Feilding resident, Joan Ford. She remembers her late night shopping experiences. ''My mother would hand the car keys over to me with strict warnings about where to park and the exact time to return the car safely home. All the shops would be open and it seemed that everyone would be in town. ''I would be obliged to park in Kimbolton Rd as per parent agreement, just in case there was a park check! I also recall that depending on the company I was with at the time, a report would get back to my mother. ''As you get older, the realisation comes that no matter where you are in the world, be it Feilding or the middle of London, the parent network outsmarts any technology back then or today!'' Younger members of the family will learn valuable lessons of budgeting and how to make a dollar go further. Christmas can be an extra expense and being honest and upfront with a budget encourages good shopping skills. Feilding offers a wide shopping choice. Very rarely do you make a wrong purchase, and find yourself with a huge problem because you want to return or exchange an item. ''Friendly Feilding'' is an apt description when you take into account the assistance you will receive. Many stores offer lay-by, gift vouchers, exchange cards, free gift wrapping, pick-up or delivery of items closer to Christmas. Parking and ease of walking around is still so simple. Feilding boasts some wonderful speciality shops and comforting cafes. Why would you want to get into a bumper- to-bumper situation because of traffic lights, pay parking fees and lose an hour of time just getting from one place to the next? Businesses are offering their own in- house specials throughout the extended hours, including M and J Shoes who are having a ''roll the dice'' offer on Wednesday night, December 7, giving you a chance to win up to 50 per cent discount plus they have free drinks and nibbles. Some of these businesses have sponsored, supported (and will continue to do so) many teenage activities such as sporting and cultural exchanges. So shop local, it makes our town go round!
