Players arrive around 1pm and enter their names. Organ- iser Ali Farrell, and Rex Taylor or Arthur Schofield divide the entrants up into suitable teams depending on the number of participants and their relative strengths. Two brief games are played, with a break for afternoon tea, and points are awarded for vic- tory on the green plus just turn- ing up and playing. These points accumulate towards the end of the season when prizes will be awarded at a social function and trips are planned to other bowling clubs such as Marton, for example. Visiting bowlers are made very welcome. The afternoon's play is con- ducted on a friendly level and provides a chance for some players to hone their skills and an ideal opportunity for those interested in trying the sport out for the first time to get along, be provided with a set of bowls, get some help and pointers from established players and learn how to play the game in a social atmosphere. Casual is the dress style and flat soled shoes the only requirement. As the weather improves, it is not uncommon for 50 players to attend for a fun afternoon finished off with refreshment in the clubhouse. Latest news from the new control formula delivering the fastest V8s to compete in a domestic series in New Zealand is that a top Australian touring car identity, Cameron McConville, will be pitting his skills against the best Kiwi drivers. The New Zealand star lineup is rich, including household names Greg Mur- phy, John McIntyre, Craig Baird, Kayne Scott, Andy Booth, Daniel Gaunt and Paul Manuell. The addition of Cameron McConville, who is well-known and highly-regarded by his peers, will simply further enhance the attraction of this exciting new category to motorsport fans who identify Manfeild as the best place to see the finest motor racing action,'' said Manfeild chief executive Heather Verry. The V8SuperTourer concept has been the talk of motor racing circles for some time and everyone is extremely keen to see the cars in action. Manfeild has a huge summer motor racing schedule ahead, not least being the New Zealand Grand Prix on Febru- ary 9 to 12, which is traditionally our biggest race meeting. Hosting the V8SuperTourers on April 27 -- 29 as well, is just another plus.'' Walkinshaw Racing endurance driver McConville has signed with MPC Motorsport to drive a Holden Commodore VE in the series. The Manfeild race is the third of four sprint rounds, following the opener at Hampton Downs on February 17 to 19 and a meeting at Powerbuilt Raceway (Ruapuna), Christchurch, on March 30 to April 1. The sprint events precede three two- driver endurance races later in 2012. The schedule has been designed to avoid any clash with the BNT NZV8s, the flagship tintop category of the national motorsport calendar also appearing at the NZGP, and next year's Australian V8 Supercars events.
