To mark it's 50th "Birthday" a $20,000.00 donation is to be made to the "Coach House Project". The community minded members can look back proudly over fifty years of service to the community where they live, work and play. In 1967 the first oratory contest was held. The annual event has seen many school students compete in Lions speech competitions. In the early days Bargain Boulevards would entice crowds out onto the streets to seek out a good buy. One of the stand out achievements was the ambitious 18 hole mini golf course. Back in 1980 Roy Brook promoted the idea, and with Barry Lowther as 'Site Manager' saw it through to completion. The theme "A Fantasyland story book setting" has seen thousands of families enjoy the fun of the waterfalls and streams flowing through in and around the Wishing Well, Castle, Crooked House and the Old Woman's Shoe. Lions committed approximately 12,000 hours over a fifteen month period, ably assisted by periodic detention workers each Saturday. Generous assistance by the community, local companies and the then Feilding Borough Council with donations of materials, equipment and finance saw the course opened in 1982. Another project in 1994 was the Makino Playground, again a stunning project that gave so much enjoyment to the community. Many organisations have benefited from projects by the Feilding Host Lions Club. A long list includes a caravan for St Johns, Radios for the Fire Brigade, money for Palmerston North Rescue Helicopters, construction work for the arena for Riding for the Disabled, the roof for the Makino Pool and regular support for the Arohanui Hospice. The annual Mid Year "Christmas Dinner" for senior citizens is now a major project.
